Trump told us over and over again during the 2024 election that if Kamala Harris won, she’d drag us into World War III. He claimed he was the only one who could keep the peace, that his “America First” strategy meant no new wars, and that the world was “scared” of him enough to stay in line.
Well… what happened?
He bombed a foreign nation — without Congressional approval. Earlier today, Trump announced that the U.S. had strategically bombed Iran’s key nuclear facilities — a severe escalation in a foreign conflict that we should be monitoring from afar, not joining.
Now don’t get me wrong: while I’m no expert in foreign policy, I know that Iran having nuclear weapons is bad. However, Israel already has nuclear weapons, not to mention the billions of dollars we (the U.S.) send them every year in support of their self-defense. That should’ve been the extent of our involvement in this conflict — helping from a distance, not actively bombing Iran.
Not only is this a huge escalation, but it’s blatantly unconstitutional. The President is supposed to go through Congress before taking military action. But unsurprisingly, Trump sidestepped the Constitution and instead chose to do things his way — bringing us yet another step closer to an autocracy.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York said this in response to Trump’s unauthorized strikes:
“The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers.
He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.
It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
I 100% agree. This is grounds for impeachment — clear and simple. Trump violated the Constitution and should be removed from office.
The last thing we need right now is another war. I’m praying for all of our troops involved in this senseless conflict — and for the innocent civilians who will be caught in the middle.
— James Crocker
Trump is consistently not conformed to our Constitution! Congress and the Senate fight to get to the microphone to praise this criminal President. How many of us will have to lose sons, daughters or spouses in this war?
